This was on my September wish list (view here) but when I found out they were only available on September 6-8 for VIB/VIB Rouge members at Sephora and wouldn't be available again until October 1st, I caved and ended up buying the shade Bound. I only have $100 left to spend to re-qualify for VIB Rouge for next year so I've been trying to stretch it out for all the holiday limited editions and sales but couldn't help myself. I'm so happy I purchased Bound though! I was looking for a hybrid of a lipgloss and lipstick and think I found my perfect match..
Lip glosses usually are sheer pigment, glossy, hydrating but not long wearing. Lipsticks are on the opposite spectrum, usually have more pigment, longer lasting but are more drying. I've been looking for something in-between. I'm a huge moisture girl when it comes to my lips. They ALWAYS have to be moisturized. So most lipsticks aren't the most comfortable for me to wear and glosses are usually my to-go's, but I wish they had more long-lasting pigmentation so I didn't have to reapply every hour or so. I also hate that some glosses are super sticky and when you have long blonde hair the wind and lipgloss are not your friends. And liquid lipsticks and I don't get along much due to most of them being too drying and uncomfortable to wear. After like an hour of wearing a liquid lipstick I feel and look like I've been stranded in a desert...not cute or fun.
These new NARS Velvet Lip Glides are exactly what I've been looking for, a long-lasting pigmented formula that isn't too drying. They claim to be "an innovative, long-lasting lip color with a smooth, semi-matte finish that provides ultimate hydration", and I completely agree. The first thing I thought of when I opened it and swatched it, was that it reminded me of Stila Patina's vanilla scent, which I love. Also the initial formula reminded me of Stila Patina as well. It's a "mousse" initial liquid gloss formula, thinner than Stila Patina but not too thin, that dries minutes later to a matte cream that's super hydrating (more hydrating and comfortable than Stila Patina though). It's NOT sticky AT ALL either! I wore it for about 4 hours and it stayed on well even through eating dinner. I love that it didn't leave an outer line around my lips, it was evenly distributed throughout my entire lip, just less pigmentation. That's huge for me because I hate when I apply a lipstick then hours later it looks like I just applied thick lip liner only. This formula is seriously so smooth and comfortable on the lips! I could wear this 24/7.
Bound is described as a soft rose pink. I would describe it as a light to medium pink-mauve shade. This shade would honestly look good on any skin tone. It was a little lighter than I expected but it still looks great and is perfect if you're looking for an everyday shade. I've swatched it below on my lips but I will say that it looks a little warmer, not as cool-toned in real life. There's 12 shades of these new Velvet Lip Glides that range from nude to very dark berries and a brown, but Bound was the only shade I considered that I would wear everyday to clinic and school. I don't like shades that are lighter than my natural lip color, which leans on the more pigmented pink side. So I never wear nudes or light baby pinks. I don't even own anything really lighter than my lip color. I feel that it just washes me out since I'm already light to medium skin tone with bright blonde hair and blue eyes. Other shades I'm interested in trying are Deviant (a deep burgundy), Unspeakable (a garnet) and Toy (a deep aubergine). These would be really pretty berry shades for a night out. I'm excited to try those once they come back October 1st. PS the first thing I thought of when I saw the shade Playpen, a light pink peachy nude, was that Jaclyn Hill would love this. Anyone else agree? :)

Update: I recently purchased Unspeakable and am loving this shade as well! It's the perfect berry shade!
NARS Velvet Lip Glides are $26 for 0.20oz each. They will be available again October 1st at all NARS counters and at Sephora. Click here to learn more about these Velvet Lip Glides on the NARS Cosmetics website (and to see swatches of each shade on different colored skin tones).
Update: Now available exclusively at Sephora, the NARS Sarah Moon Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide Set is available to purchase, which includes 6 mini shades (0.12oz each) for $45 ($105 value). It includes 3 permanent shades and 3 new limited edition (LE) shades. The shades are Bound, No.675 (LE, a deep peach), Chez Claude (LE, a warm pink), Unspeakable, Plato's (LE, a deep pink) and Toy. This is a great value set if you want multiple colors and like the smaller sizes for traveling or just to try them out. I love that it includes Bound and Unspeakable, since those are my top two favorite shades. Very interested in trying the three new shades as well. Will definitely be picking up this new limited edition set! PS if you're interested in checking out the rest of the NARS Sarah Moon collection, check out my blog post here!
