Sorry for the lack of activity on my blog, it's been a hectic past couple of months! I recently took the NBEO (National Board Examination of Optometry) and finished my 3rd year in Optometry school. Now I start 4th year externship rotations in May where I'll be working at four different practices in FL and then graduate the following May (2018)! One more year until you can officially call me Dr. Barnes :)
Anyways, I'm very excited to share with everyone some of my new favorite makeup and skincare products I've been loving these past couple of months, starting with the most beautiful natural-looking highlighter!

The Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact is a natural-looking highlight that gives you that "glow from within". It comes in four shades; one highlight (what I purchased) and three bronze. The Highlight shade (01) is described as a "golden nude", but I would say it's more of a lighter cream-to-beige color than a warm gold. The formula is ultra smooth, long lasting, buildable and best of all; not glittery! It's sold at Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales for $42 for 0.26 oz.
I purchased this because I had heard great things about this being a more natural highlight, which is exactly what I was looking for since my everyday makeup routine doesn't involve a "blinding highlight". (Can't exactly wear that while seeing patients in clinic haha!) Also, I've been looking for a highlight that didn't look like a streak of glitter on my face and I was trying to find one lighter and whiter than my "gold" highlight shades. I have a lot of the Becca highlighters which are great but I was just looking for something more subtle and natural.

Let me just say that this Laura Mercier one is the MOST beautiful natural highlight I've tried so far. It is absolutely perfect for everyday wear. It is blendable and buildable, which is great if you do want more of an obvious glow. It also doesn't emphasize texture on the skin. I would recommend it for all skin types and ages. I apply it to the tops of my cheekbones with the Morphe M501 Pro Pointed Blender brush (which is only $7.99)! But any fan or highlight brush will do. The only complaint I have is the large square packing is kind of bulky but it seems to be durable and good quality.
If you want a more natural looking highlight or if you're new to highlighters and don't know which one to start with, I would definitely recommend the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder.
